LAMA Khentrul Rinpoche prepares for a Treasure Vase ceremony in Upwey on Sunday to bestow blessings on the community and "rejuvenate" the environment.
As part of the ceremony, conducted throughout Tibet for thousands of years, treasure vases are filled with significant symbolic materials including traditional medicines, holy relics and precious jewels.
Many are expected to attend the family-friendly cultural experience at the Tibetan Buddhist Ri-me Institute. Upwey's ceremony will be the third performed in Australia by the Tibetan-born Lama.
In 2007, he performed a similar ceremony in Tibet, where 3000 treasure vases were created and buried by monks at the Jamdah Monastery.
The Treasure Vase ceremony is at Upwey Community Hall, 1443 Burwood Highway, Upwey, from 10am-2pm, on Sunday. No bookings required. Details: www.rimebuddhism.com
