Arrests made over GPS thefts

30 Jun, 2009 04:00 AM
A RECENT spate of thefts from motor vehicles in Ringwood has prompted police to crack down on offenders.

Acting Sergeant Craig MacGregor, of Ringwood police, said the operation had resulted in a number of arrests being made.

He said the majority of thefts had happened in and around commercial areas and nearby car parks.

"One item in particular that has been targeted by thieves is car GPS devices. It is timely to remind the local community to be mindful of leaving valuables in their vehicles or on open display when leaving their cars unattended."

Acting Sergeant MacGregor said the operation was also targeting anti-social behaviour around the Ringwood area.

Earlier this month, the Journal reported that 17 cars parked in the Ringwood shopping precinct had been broken into in May, with the majority of thefts happening in broad daylight.

Leading Senior Constable Vicki Wilshire said stolen items included GPS systems and tools.

Information to Ringwood police, 98713000, or Crime Stoppers, 1800333000.
