A MAROONDAH community house's plans to relocate and improve amenities have been given a leg up by a $25,000 State Government grant.
A feasibility study into relocating the North Ringwood Community Centre will include recommendations for a preferred site for relocation, concept plans for a redeveloped centre, identification of potential partners for future developments and potential funding sources.
Maroondah Council has contributed $5000 towards the study. Cr Alex Makin said the community house needed to be relocated to better meet the needs of the Ringwood North community in an accessible and prominent location.
"The North Ringwood Community House is the only community house within Maroondah that is not located on council land [and] this has limited the house's ability to apply for grants. As a result, the house has outgrown its current location and the buildings do not meet current accessibility standards."
Cr Makin praised the State Government for recognising the importance of the house to the Maroondah community.
House manager Sue McDermott said the funding was wonderful news for the community.
"It's the community who have been concerned for some time that the house has reached capacity and that we need to locate to a more suitable site that will allow us to meet the growing needs of a diverse North Ringwood community."
The study is expected to be completed by the start of next year.
