US company offers early warning system

18 Aug, 2009 01:15 PM
A COMMUNITY bushfire group survey is seeking support for an early-warning system for the hills offered by a US company.

The Dandenong Ranges Community Bushfire Group wants the support of Sassafras residents, schools and shop owners for a pilot system from US company Federal Signal.

Company representatives have met with group co-founders Mel Gajdek and Jo Hirst.

The group would need up to $7000 for the new system, which is said to be a "mass notification system capable of live voice streaming for high-risk gap areas". Ms Gajdek said the system would help tourists visiting the Dandenongs as well as residents.

Cr Noel Cliff hopes to meet with the company. He hoped it would pay for the system because, if successful, it would be in high demand.
