Cobras let one slip after solid win

30 Jun, 2009 04:00 AM
THE Kilsyth Cobras missed some crucial opportunities down the stretch, allowing Frankston to steal a 81-78 win on Sunday.

The Cobras had finished off Canberra's chance of making the finals with a 98-73 win on Saturday night.

Against the Canberra Gunners, Kilsyth opened up an 11-point lead at the first change. Canberra had no answer for Cobras import Joe Werner (19 points). Kilsyth dominated on the rebounds, pulling in 52 boards to just 32 for Canberra.

In the second game, Frankston struggled in the opening term as Kilsyth built a 27-17 lead at the opening break. Tim Lang (18 points) found his range. Werner (13 points) tired but Quincy Henderson (15 points) had his best game for the season. In a frantic final minute, the Cobras missed three opportunities to win.

In this weekend's game the Cobras take on the Knox Raiders.

* The Lady Cobras remain in touch despite splitting the weekend's matches. They fell 82-77 Saturday night to Nunawading before defeating Frankston 85-69 on Sunday.
