THE run to the Chandler Shield finals continues to be a race for six teams with Mooroolbark and Templeton locked in a battle for the top position.
In a taste of what could be a grand-final showdown, Mooroolbark won the toss and took the field against the Taipans on Saturday.
On a slow outfield, Ryan Baker managed a knock of 44 with Templeton making 8-206. Jason Watts was again in form, taking 4-67 off 26 overs for the Barkers.
South Croydon's Ross Stewart (112) continued his terrific season with the bat, helping the Bulldogs amass 262 against South Warrandyte.
In reply, South Warrandyte is 1-27 in a contest that is vital to the Hawks' finals prospects.
Croydon North could manage only 201 against a tight Norwood bowling attack. Both teams are still in contention for the finals, making this match a must-win all round. Chris Noy made 45, while Ryan Toohey chipped in with 27 not out.
Still searching for its first win, Warranwood finally threw the willow around and made an impressive 258 against Bayswater Park. Brendan Moore (69) looked the goods, while Marcus Adams snared 5-69 in a game Bayswater Park must win to keep its finals flame burning.
Michael Crosbie (75) was the only bright spot in Croydon Ranges' paltry total of 158 against Wonga Park. Wantirna South finished on 209 against North Ringwood.
The annual Twenty20 clash between the RDCA and the Ringwood Rams will be held from 5.15pm this Wednesday at Jubilee Park in Ringwood.
