A STRING of missed chances in several Ringwood District Cricket Association Chandler Shield games could prove costly by the time round four comes to a close this Saturday evening.
One of the worst involved Mooroolbark batsman Lincoln Grigg, who helped guide his team to 285 on the back of an excellent 75 after being dropped on the second ball he faced.
Grigg did have some helpers, including Brendan Ricci (78), Aaron Mullett (39) and Darren Jackson (35).
Wonga Park's Stuart Dunk enjoyed a solid bowling stint with 7-56 off 19 overs.
North Ringwood dropped early catches against Wantirna South, allowing the Devils to reach 1-74 by tea, but a rejuvenated bowling attack soon righted the earlier wrongs and ripped through the batting order to dismiss the Devils for 160.
South Croydon also missed crucial chances against Croydon North, enabling the Knights to recover from 6-116 to reach 206. The best with the bat was Cameron Carson (63).
In a top-of-the-table clash, Templeton will resume at 2-26 in reply to South Warrandyte's 192. Andrew Gottliebsen (5-18) tore the heart out of the Hawks early, leaving them reeling at 4-32, but David Cutler (30), Damien Vozzo (48) and Steve Lindsay (43) battled through.
Andy Wu was sent back to the pavilion after a first-ball duck against Norwood, leaving Croydon Ranges in all sorts of trouble. Despite making only 109, the Kookaburras might fancy their chances when Norwood resumes at 3-20 this week.
Kilsyth will be eager to bat well and grab a badly needed win after dismissing Warranwood for 197, although at one stage the Sharks were reeling at 4-29.
Andrew Spittle (59no) and Rob Swan (38) were the pick of the batsmen, while Matthew Clarke snared 3-34 in a good spell of bowling. The Redbacks will resume this Saturday at 1-7.
