MT Evelyn bowler Aaron Booth took 4-17 to rout Gruyere District on the opening day of the fourth round of Yarra Valley Cricket Association competition.
The weather might have been good, but with Booth in full flight, and Harry Bruekers 4-18, the day took on a gloomy aspect for the Gruyere boys as only Matt Tilney (23) offered any resistance in the score of 69.
To rub salt into the wound, Mt Evelyn was 6-193 at stumps with Andrew Giblin leading the way with 105 (S Cogleman (32), Aaron Violi (2-21), R Prouse (2-31)).
Elsewhere, Silvan batted first on its tiny oval against Warburton-Millgrove. Luke Painter was 95 not out as Silvan reached 245. Luke Darwall (4-35) was the best of the Burra bowlers.
Woori Yallock travelled to Queens Park to play Healesville. Woori won the toss and reached 282 with Andrew Sharp (40) Dallas Spencer (43) and Greg Selby (80). For the home side Darren Edwards took 3-30. Healesville will need to bat well to take the points.
Wandin, at home, batted first and, after a slow start and a middle-order slump, steadied to be all out for a defendable 261 (Scott Hasan (60), John Aumann (47) Nathan Fall (5-39). The visitors do have the batting to reach this target but much will depend on the bowling of Jackson Wright, the fastest in the YVCA, and Simon Young.
Hoddles Creek batted first in what was the main game of the weekend against Coldstream but were all out for 111. Leith Lambert took 3-18. Coldstream is 4-43 in reply.
In the R A Finger Trophy, Seville amassed 6-403cc against Coldstream with Craig Atkins (143) and Phil Smith (124) leading the way. The score is not beyond Coldstream but Seville will want to consolidate on top of the ladder.
The CGrade 1 matches were also interesting as Kinglake hosted Launching Place United who batted first and reached 8 for 194cc (J Wilson (59) Michael Young (42) S Williams (2-31) A Westworth (2-21)). Gruyere District has a big target to reach on day two as Poweltown made 7-300cc (Garry McRorie (106) D Kraus (6-62)).
