Knights make it a great day

ON lush outfields, bowlers had the better of batsmen in round 3 of Chandler Shield on Saturday.

Last year's premiers, Wantirna South, were dismissed by a well-drilled Croydon North for 80.

Ryan Toohey (3-4 off 7) ripped through the top order to have the Devils reeling at 6-40 and they never recovered. The Knights will resume next week at 3-80.

Templeton won the toss and batted against Warranwood. Dan Turner (5-14 off 12) dismissed both openers within nine runs. Despite losing 5-8 at the end of the innings, the Taipans finished the day at 9-250.

A tight battle is ensured between North Ringwood and Norwood. Batting first, the Vikings were dismissed for 135, with Michael Scott (3-4) the best of the Bulls' bowlers. At 3-30 in reply, this game is in the balance.

Wonga Park's Ross Little (4-26 off 22) restricted South Croydon to a disappointing total of 126. Wonga will resume next week on 0-6.

Batting first against South Warrandyte, Croydon Ranges' top order was held together by Ben Stallworthy's (47).

Finding themselves at 4-75 Michael Crosbie (40) and Simon Crow (38) looked like establishing a reasonable total but the Kookaburras lost 5-23 to be dismissed for 188. Steve Garratt (5-43) was best for the Hawks.

Bayswater Park's Collin VanDreumel (5-82 off 23) got his team off to a dream start against Mooroolbark having them reeling at 2-4.
